Youth worry about your father's matter - Dokimos 22

The Christian Establishment has often associated the fact of serving God as being adult’s matters. Who has never heard: « We are young, we want to enjoy our life ». This sentence implies that we have no time for God. Nowadays, young people want to try all sorts of experiences and to dedicate themselves to numerous pleasures: alcoholic evenings, sex, drugs, even what is forbidden and criminal. Therefore, this is not the plan of God for Youth: “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come, And the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them”: While the sun and the light, The moon and the stars, Are not darkened, And the clouds do not return after the rain; In the day when the keepers of the house tremble, And the strong men bow down; When the grinders cease because they are few, And those that look through the windows grow dim;” Ecclesiastes 12:1-3. This verse is often used to justify the fact of having a good time while we are still young because those who refer to it take only the first part of this Salomon’s recommendation. Yet, the important part of this word is based upon God’s judgment which warns us and suggests us to choose between what is good and pleasant to the Lord and what is good and pleasant to our flesh. But this choice can have terrible consequences on our future. God knows perfectly what we are made of and knows the desires and the frivolity bound to the Youth. He wants to save all the people from their youngest age. God, in his perfect love toward us, desires that we know the love and the true happiness which dwell only in Him. He does not like that we get defiled in the world by looking for short-lived pleasures which are only vanity and which will inexorably lead us to death. That is why, the Eternal often called the young people to serve him.

It is the case for example of Joseph, Samuel, Jeremiah, the apostle John or Timothy. Indeed, the Lord calls each: “ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”” (Romans 12:1). The Word of God is clear: “ Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (2 Timothy 2:22). Sanctification is not the privilege of adults but is the matter of every person having given his or her heart to Jesus. We have to sanctify our spirit, soul and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23), that is to separate us from the things of the world, especially from those overlaid in our hearts. « Because God did not call us to impurity, but to sanctification, (…) without which nobody will see the Lord » (1 Thessalonians 4:7; Hebrews 12:4). Why do the young people who answered the call of the Lord, unfortunately, tend to minimize themselves (Jeremiah 1:6). It is because they are too often stigmatized by their elder brothers (Genesis 37:6-10). But Paul was able to tell to Timothy: «Let no one despise your youth » (1Timothy 4:12).

He recognized that God had put in the young people an excellent seed necessary to be exploited. Moreover Jesus does not minimize the Youth either because His word exhorts us to be: « example(s) to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.» (1 Timothy 4:12).

Then Youth of Jesus-Christ, do not minimize yourself anymore! Be not affected by the mockeries of the people in society. Get up and take care of your father’s matters! Serving God in one’s youth is possible; because you can do everything by the One who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13). The Ecclesiastes ends well: «Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. » (2 Corinthians 7:1). «Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all » (The Ecclesiastes 12:13).
